What Can I Expect During My First Visit to a Chiropractor?

During the initial visit, Chiropractors typically take a health history and perform a physical examination with a special emphasis on the spine.  Other examination or test if deemed necessary will have to be carried out. If chiropractic treatment is appropriate a treatment plan will be developed.

During your follow-up visit you will be treated to the many different types of chiropractic care techniques geared towards your specific problem.

Chiropractors may combine the use of all or some of the following:

• Chiropractic adjustment (manipulation)

• Heat and cold treatments

• Electrical stimulation

• Ultra sound

• Rehab exercises

• Nutrition and lifestyle counseling

• Dietary supplements

TREATMENT/DURATION

The number of treatments required and its duration will vary depending on several factors. Generally long term care is recommended for chronic or severe health problems. While some conditions will inherently require more time to heal than others.

Three stages of treatment:

• Initial frequent visits to relieve immediate pain;

• Rehabilitative treatment to continue healing process;

• Period maintenance or wellness treatment along with lifestyle changes to stay in good health.
